Sean Casey

Sean Thomas Casey (born July 2, 1974), nicknamed “the Mayor”, is an American former professional baseball first baseman and coach. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, and Boston Red Sox. Casey was selected to the MLB All-Star Game three times during his career. He was the hitting coach for the New York Yankees in 2023. He was a broadcaster and commentator for the MLB Network.

   • Frustration abounded when Casey struck out looking for the second time in the Reds half of the 5th. Both Casey and Reds coach Ron Oester were ejected by Vanvleet for arguing his call. He was replaced at first base by Hal Morris.

   • Opponent: Philadelphia Phillies
   • Carlos Silva’s first pitch to Adam Dunn in the Reds’ half of the six was in tight, whereas his second pitch went behind Dunn. Silva had been having control issues, but Dunn took exception, and charged the mound. The benches cleared, though Dunn was tackled by Mike Lieberthal (Phillies’ catcher). Home Plate Umpire ejected Silva, Dunn, Casey, Jose Mesa and Phillies Manager Larry Bowa. Case was replaced by Felipe Lopez in the batting order, who would go to third. Russell Branyan, who had pinch hit for Aaron Boone earlier in the inning, moved to First Base. It should be noted that Dunn had been hit by a pitch in the Reds’ 4th Inning by Kevin Millwood after hitting a home run against Millwood in the 3rd. ³
